Product Introduction
Pilling is a fabric surface phenomenon characterized by small balls formed by tangled fibers clinging to the surface. These are formed during wear or washing by tangles of loose fibers that protrude from the surface of the fabric and develop into spherical bundles that are fixed to the fabric by some unbroken fibers. These make the costume look very unsightly. To determine the tendency to form the pill, the test samples extracted from the fabric sample rubbed against each other under controlled conditions. After rubbing for a defined period of time, the appearance of the specimen is compared to standard grade photographs (weave pilling photo and weave pilling photo) to grade the fabric. ICI pilling and tangle testers are specially designed devices that access the pilling resistance of any type of fabric according to the ICI pilling system. Smith Barney Inc. is now able to offer technologically advanced machines that are easy to use and inexpensive.
Function: Determine the pilling and pilling resistance of textile fabrics.
The fabric to be tested must be wrapped around a special pipe of polyurethane (via an accessory kit) and then placed in a cork paneling box. After setting the desired number of spins (up to 99999), press the function key to start the test. After the preset cycle, pilling formation on the sample will be assessed and classified by comparison with a special standard photo set.
When the kit was used for tangle testing, fabric deterioration due to entanglement into a pointed material with known properties was simulated.
