ISO 3573:2012 Hot‑rolled carbon steel sheet of commercial and drawing qualities

ISO 3573:2012 is an international standard specifying requirements for hot‑rolled carbon steel sheet with two quality grades: commercial quality and drawing quality. It covers chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensional tolerances, surface condition and inspection rules for hot rolled carbon steel flat sheets.

This material normally has oxide scale on its surface. It is acceptable for applications where mill scale or minor surface imperfections are permissible after scale removal. It is not recommended for end products requiring high‑grade cosmetic surface finish.

Commercial quality grade is used for general forming, bending and simple fabrication. Drawing quality grade offers better ductility for deep drawing and more complex forming operations.

Typical applications include structural parts, chassis components, enclosures, frames and parts that will be further painted or coated. It is related to ISO 3574 (cold‑reduced carbon steel sheet), while the ASTM counterpart is ASTM A1011/A1011M.
