Product Introduction

Dupont impact tester has been designed to evaluate the resistance of a dry film of paint, varnish or plastic products when it is subjected to a deformation caused by a falling weight dropped under standard conditions after curing. It is widely used in the plastic, paint, coating, steel, pipe and fabrication industry.

Place the test specimen with its coated‑side upward on the impact station. A weight hammer falls freely from a preset height to strike the sample. Inspect the specimen for surface damage and deformation after impact. This instrument is applicable to impact‑resistance and coating‑adhesion tests for plastics, ceramics, acrylics, glass‑fiber materials and paint coatings.

Test Procedure

1.Specimen preparation

Cut specimens to suitable dimensions according to fixture clearance and test‑standard requirements.

2.Specimen mounting

Center the prepared sample on the impact die seat.


3.Set the required drop height (50‑mm adjustment step), then lock the retaining fork into the positioning hole.

4.Fit the selected weight hammer onto the retaining fork for testing. Pull away the retaining fork swiftly. The free‑falling hammer strikes the impact punch, which delivers impact loading to the specimen.


Result Evaluation and Impact‑Energy Calculation

1. Take out the specimen and examine impact‑induced damage and deformation.

2.     Formula for impact‑energy:

E (kg·m) = Hammer mass (kg) × Drop height (m)

3.     Unit conversion note: 1 kg·m = 9.80665 N
