Working
Principle
X‑ray
Fluorescence (XRF) Analyzer uses primary X‑rays to irradiate a sample. When
high‑energy X‑rays with energy exceeding the binding energy of inner‑shell
electrons collide with atoms, inner‑shell electrons are ejected, creating
vacancies and exciting atoms to an unstable state. Electrons from outer shells
transition inward to fill vacancies, releasing energy in the form of secondary
X‑rays (X‑ray fluorescence).
Each
element emits characteristic X‑rays with unique energy and wavelength, enabling
qualitative elemental analysis. The intensity of characteristic X‑rays
correlates with elemental content, supporting quantitative analysis.
